I had some issues: The issue you are experiencing is a classic public key authentication mismatch caused by a discrepancy between the VM's SSH configuration and your local gcloud configuration. Why this happens: VM Configuration: The virtual machine mynet-us-vm (and the project) has OS Login enabled (enable-oslogin=true in the metadata). When OS Login is enabled, the SSH daemon on the VM ignores traditional GCE metadata-based SSH keys and strictly requires OS Login authentication.
