Very instructive speed comparison! I had to read the tfrecord documentation though, since I don't recall seeing the parse_example method being explained anywhere.

The python new lines are all using 2 spaces instead of the standard 4. Whenever I press enter from the start of the function, I have to press backspace then space twice. Please fix it.
