While configuring the HTTP Load Balancer, the gcloud CLI encountered a fatal TypeError: string indices must be integers, not 'str' crash. This appeared to be caused by a corruption in the local ~/.config/gcloud directory after an incorrect gcloud config set account command. Standard recovery steps like gcloud init failed to resolve the internal Python exception, leading to a total block of the compute resource creation commands.
