Got it to work this time by copying and pasting the commands, rather than re-typing -- I generally prefer to re-type cloud shell commands as it helps with understanding and retention, but it does increase the risk of typos introducing errors. I believe the error last time was caused because I typed: chmod =x quickstart.sh rather than: chmod +x quickstart.sh This lab is very fiddly -- nano is not very intuitive (I realize it's much better than alternative Linux text editors!), and using sed to substitute values in the file seemed superfluous.

I've completed this lab once before several years ago, but wasn't able to finish it this time. Not sure whether I messed up the instructions or the UI has changed. First, the gclouds build submit command in step 2 failed because the permissions for quickstart.sh were incorrect, even though the file was made executable. I fixed this with chmod 775. Next, I successfully completed Step 3 according to the lab progress tracker, but no history appeared in the Cloud Build/History page. Finally, I was unable to complete Step 4 because my build was failing on Step 0, not Step 1.
