Today I got hands-on with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and honestly it was a lot more fun than I expected. I started from scratch setting up compute zones, spinning up a real Kubernetes cluster on Google Cloud with actual virtual machines, and then deploying a live app on the internet with a public IP that anyone could access. I also set up a Load Balancer which basically gives your app a real address on the internet and handles traffic coming in. The whole thing ran on Docker containers which I had just learned earlier the same day. And at the end I learned why deleting your cloud resources matters because in the real world unused clusters cost real money. Going from zero cloud knowledge to deploying a live app on Google Cloud infrastructure in one day felt pretty good ngl.
