The instructions weren't clear enough to discern between when to use the DB instance public IP and the VM instance public IP. I had to troubleshoot that quite a bit.

Need more warning about what isn't supposed to work the first round. I was troubleshooting and fixing stuff before I read ahead. However, that was my bad - and I probably learned more that way! :)
