It's probably user error but when I created the proxy I used the URL of the file retail-backend.yaml, which means when I tested the proxy I got 404 all the time. It was in my last attempt when creating the proxy, in the URL target I used the contents of the servers (defined in the yaml, i,e. "https://gcp-cs-training-01-test.apigee.net/training/db" ) and after doing that debugging the requests just worked.
