I prefer vi over nano (and using vi in the ssh window gives a coloured output which strengthens this preference!) but it was not possible to copy text from the file open in vi and paste it into a different part of the file (such as one might do using putty) nano has no helpful colours but does allow the expected copy/paste I guess i could have used yank and put in vi but as I went to check the nano copy possibility I will never know!
