there were some steps which did not work correctly and the validation had to be submitted multiple times on another step before validating, although I made no changes in between submissions. I think there should be some extra instructions about workarounds if one step fails. I had to manually copy the index.html file into my VM (using the ssh window) manually copy the text and vi index.html on the target and then paste in the text and save and rename to the correct index-debian file.
