./bdutil -b $BUCKET_NAME \ -z us-east1-b \ -n 2 \ -P $UNIQUE_ID \ deploy did not work. It kept giving error that ./bdutil_env.sh could not be found.

This lab, as in many of these labs, too much focus is placed on local configuration of OS/Software not specific to GCP. This is not a value add and actually has the user expend time on things not value add to the learning objectives. A specific example is in this lab it suggests to use the prefix of my email address as the unique HADOOP ID. However this is incompatable with HaDoop as I, and many people, have a "." in my prefix and I ended up spending 15 minutes troubleshooing HADOOP. A person not fluent in UNIX would have struggled to complete the lab. The approach take detracts from the GCP lesson material. I would suggest many of these objects are set up prior to the user signing in. For example, the following its from "what you learned" have nothing to do with GCP "How to Install open-source software on the VM. How to configure and test the VM by deploying a Hadoop cluster."
